frequently asked questions

why do I need travel insurance for Austria?

having travel insurance in place is essential for every type of adventure. after all, having a policy that matches your travel needs will not only protect you in the event of an injury or medical emergency in most cases, but it will also cover you for a range of other mishaps that could go wrong during your trip too. for example, trip cancellation, lost or stolen personal belongings and much more.

most of the brands available through albert & eddie also come with the option to enhance your travel insurance cover. with policy extensions for things like gadget protection, cruise cover and sports activities, you can enjoy all of the holiday activities that you love, knowing you’re protected.

do i need an EHIC/GHIC card for Austria?

yes, it’s a good idea to take your Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) or European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) with you during your trip to Austria, if you have one – this is your reminder to check it is in date! the health cards provide British citizens with access to discounted (or even free) medical assistance in a medical emergency.

however, the GHIC or EHIC should not be used as a substitute for travel insurance as the health cards will not cover you for things like medical repatriation (getting you back home in the event of an injury or medical emergency), emergency medical expenses, cancellation, delay and personal baggage. If we agree to pay for a medical expense which has been reduced by an equivalent to the policy excess because you have used a GHIC, we will not deduct the excess under the Medical Expenses section of cover.
