for some, travelling to Asia is a once-in-a-lifetime trip and, being longer haul, will usually work out more expensive than a European trip.  so, making sure you have good cover in place should the worst happen, is really important.

personal possessions.  imagine getting to the luggage carousel and your bags aren’t there!  until your bags catch you up, there’s usually protection in place to cover the cost of a new set of clothes and toiletries.  as well as cover should your possessions be lost, stolen or damaged.

medical expenses.  all of your existing conditions will be considered for cover while abroad, while also including cover for emergency medical of anything new, like food poisoning or a traffic accident.  bringing you home will also be included if medically necessary.

passport/documents.  losing any of your travel documents while abroad is never great.  especially if your holiday involves multiple countries and your entire trip relies on them.  take a look into the details of the cover to make sure your passport and travel documents are included and covered.

activities.  your trip of a lifetime may involve nothing more vigorous than a coach trip and some site-seeing, but if you opt for some riskier activities or sports like bungee jumping or sky diving, you may need a specific sports policy or extensions to top-up your insurance.

travel insurance will cover emergency treatment and will also cover bringing you home if medically necessary, which will get you home after you have been discharged. remember being discharged from hospital doesn’t necessarily mean you are fit to travel, so your insurance will provide cover for accommodation until you are. 

also, check the vaccination requirements of the countries you plan to visit. Some countries may still have COVID-19 restrictions in place around the vaccine, other countries, particularly in Asia, have requirements around other jabs such as Yellow Fever. failure to comply with those countries’ regulations could prevent entry, which may not be covered by your insurance.  double check the FCDO website for more details.
